Our bodies are governed by forces we mostly ignore: hormones, the food we eat, our stress levels and even the way we sit, move... or don't move.
One book which provide an eye-opening account of what happens below the surface of our skin is WomanCode. It explains the mechanics of hormones and the impact they have on the body and offers suggestions of how the manage them in a healthier way.
It's not a sort of 'sit down and read cover to cover' kind of book. More of a reference-type thing to add to your recipe bookshelf or 'wellbeing library' (everybody should have one!). Maybe take it on holiday so when you're feeling like you're ready to return to normal life anew and make some changes, you have some ideas to help you on your way.
The author's story is also quite interesting. She's not just some mad hippy - nothing against mad hippies! - but approaches it from a totally rational and medical/scientific perspective. If you want a taster before you buy, there's a website with extracts from the book posted as blogs.
